RIP Iron Dave Adams

It was Labor Day weekend 1989 and an out of work announcer named Dave Adams arrived in Orlando from North Carolina.  Baxter and Mark were doing an all request weekend on WDIZ and ‘Iron Dave’ call into the radio station to request a song.  They gave him an impromptu addition on the spot and the rest of history.  Throughout the years, Iron Dave had a long radio career on WDIZ (Rock 100 WDIZ), WHTQ (96.5), WMMO (98.9), WHOG-FM (The Hog out of Daytona) and others.  In recent years, he started a band called Diablo Canyon and enjoyed playing gigs.

I remember Iron Dave from ‘back in the day’ and had an opportunity to meet him in recent years.  He was a great radio personality and a good person.  He passed away on September 23, 2013.

  1. I am in shock and disbelief. Another good man taken too soon. In true Dave form when I chatted with him on Monday one of the last things he said to me was “let me know how I can help.”
I’m going to miss you like crazy. God Bless his kids and family.

  2. Dave was one of the good guys in radio and in the music biz—focused, driven to perfection. Not only do we want to preserve his memory but his kids need our help as well. At least one benefit for his family is being planned and we will keep you updated. Thanks for all your support.
